On Friday the Intermediates played Ballyfad and won by 2-11 to 1-12. Our lads got off to a great start but faded after 20 mins or so. Having said that we never really looked like losing the game and despite a late Ballyfad goal we managed to hang on and qualify second in the group, which means we

Weekend Championship matches
There were mixed fortunes for the junior and intermediate teams at the weekend. firstly on Friday night the Junior team ended their winning run with a heavy defeat to St James. The damage was done in the first half when, despite playing with a strong wind, we only managed to score 1-03 and went in at half time two points down, 1-03 to 0-08. We started with sloppy wides but a well taken goal from an Ed Rowsome free gave us some hope of an improvement but we only managed three points in the first half. Playing into the wind in the second half, we managed a great start with John O Loughlin getting a well taken goal but this was as good and as close as it got on this occasion and St James ran out comfortable winners

On Saturday the Intermediates ended the long wait for a championship victory over Marshalstown with a 1-13 to 2-08 win. Playing into the strong wind in Bree we started poorly conceding a goal in the first minute but with the next attack Peter Mernagh pulled a goal back, only for the evergreen Mitch Jordan to score his and Marshalstown’s second goal within the first few minutes. Marshalstown had much the better of the play for the next 10/15 mins but we managed to get on top of them towards the end of the half helped primarily by good play from Shane Kehoe and a couple of points for Niall O Loughlin to leave the half time score 2-05 to 1-04 in favour of Marshalstown. Playing with the wind in the second half we started well and pulled back a couple of scores through frees, but we were never actually in the lead at any stage in the game until the final few minutes when a foul on Bertie Gahan led to a free scored to put us one point ahead, in the dieing moments of the game goalkeeper Sean Murphy scored a free from our own 45′ metre line to give us a two point win. Both the junior and the intermediate teams will progress to the knockout stages, whilst Marshalstown will be fighting relegation this season.
