Our intermediate hurlers had a good win over Rathnure on Thursday evening in the All County League in Monageer. Leading at half time by a single point 1-5 to 1-4 having played with the wind in the first half we looked in a bit of trouble. Rathnure began the second half brightly and went two points ahead. Our lads responded well and two well taken goals from Niall O’Loughlin turned the game and we ran out easy winners in the end.

Our Junior hurlers travelled to a windswept Our Ladys Island in div 4 of the ACL on Sunday evening and despite being short several regulars and fielding a few debutants at this level put in a spirited effort in difficult conditions. Playing with a gale in our backs in the first half we started slowly and conceded two early goals but battled back to trail by a point at halftime 2-3 to 0-8. Facing the elements in the second half our lads battled manfully and were unlucky not to be closer in the end after a decent second half with good displays from Sean Doran, Sean McCabe, Graeme O’Reilly, James Gahan, Paddy Breen and Larry Murphy       Team;  Morgan Gahan, Sean Doran, Daire Turner, Declan Kelly, Graeme O’Reilly, Paddy Breen, Paul Gahan, Liam Gahan(0-1), Sean McCabe, Ed Rowesome(0-7frees), David Breen(0-2), Larry Murphy, James Gahan(0-2), John Ivory, James Sweeney.  Sub; Mark Gahan for J Sweeney.

Our intermediate hurlers picked up a vital brace of points in their Division 3 hurling league outing against a lively Clongeen which was played under lights in Castleboro on friday last. After an impressive first half display we led at half time by 3-4 to 0-6, with Niall O’Loughlin with two and James Sweeney grabbing the goals. Clongeen took a firm grip on proceedings in the second half and we were hanging on a bit at the end, despite another two goals finished by O’Loughlin. Niall O’Reilly was unbeatable at wing back on the night, with team captain Steven Murphy not far

behind.

Our Junior Hurlers went down to Ferns in Div 4 of the All Co League on a bitterly cold evening in Monageer on Monday last. Having led at half time by 0-8 to 0-2 we conceded some soft goals in the second half to fall a goal behind with 10 minutes left. We responded well scoring 1-2 without reply to regain the lead by 2 points entering stoppage time. Ferns then grabbed a late goal and point at the death to take home the points from a game that we dominated for long spells. Best on the day were Daire Turner, Sean Doran and Adrian O’Dowd. Our Intermediate hurlers picked up a brace of points in their match against Laois outfit Shanahoe in Monageer today. After a poor first half display we trailed at half-time 0-9 to 0-6, as Shanahoe dominated in most sectors.
We improved considerably after the interval sparked by a fine goal from the outstanding Peter Mernagh and we went on to win easily in the end with furthur goals from James Sweeney with two and David Breen with the other goal.
Best on the day were Liam Gahan and Steven Murphy in defence, Matty Dunne when switched to midfield and up front man of the match Mernagh excelled.

A busy day started with a trip to Rosslare for a 12.00 o clock throw in to our league opener and an easy victory was achieved without too much fuss.

Leinster League.                                                                                                                       Monageer/Boolavogue   0-9    Avondale   0-12.

We then embarked on the long trek to Rathdrum to face Wicklow senior hurling outfit Avondale in the opening round of the Leinster League at 4.00 pm and despite the addition of some fresh players, we went down to a 3 point defeat after a dour encounter, dominated by defences.  Played in wet conditions on a very heavy pitch, and with 10 of the starting team having played earlier in the day in Rosslare, it was a big ask, against a rugged home side.
