  • Weekend Championship results

The intermediate hurlers were first out this weekend. They were playing Ballyfad in a largely unimportant match, with ourselves already through and ballyfad already eliminated. We won on a final score of 5-13 to 1-13 but the game was much closer than the final score reflected. It would be very difficult for us to hurl any worse than we did in the first half, whilst playing with the wind. THe half time score was 1-06 to 0-05 in our favour, which was very suprising given the performance we had given. The second half was a little better with John Breen scoring three goals to help us go to the top of the table. Our next match will be in two weeks against gorey.

    Team:

    1. Brian O Loughlin 2. Ray O Brien 3. Aidan Gahan 4. Paul Gahan 5. Niall O Reilly 6. Tommy Breen 7. Dean Fenlon 8. Mark Walsh 9. Bertie Gahan 10. Matthew Dunne 11. Niall O Loughlin 12. John Breen 13. Peter Mernagh 14. Stephen Murphy 15. Colm O Loughlin Sub: Marty Kelly for Peter Mernagh, David Breen for Mark Walsh

The junior hurlers had a great win over St Fintans who were the table toppers before the match, winning on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-09.THis was a very good performance and we showed great determination. We were way on top for the first half and managed to keep our lead all through the match.

Team: 1. Morgan Gahan 2. Niall Finn 3. Daire Turner 4. Sean Doran 5. Denis Walsh 6. Chris Daly 7. Sean McCabe 8. Damien Fenlon 9. Laurence Murphy 10. Patrick Walsh 11. Bryan Dwyer 12. Ed Rowsome 13. John Ivory 14. John O Loughlin 15. James Gahan  Subs: Brian Bolger for James Gahan

The walk is called ‘The Turf Cutters Trail’ as it follows an old trail up the Blackrock Mountain, one of the Blackstairs Mountains beside Mount Leinster to Moaneer, where in olden times people cut turf from the mountain bogs to provide fuel for their fires and cooking each winter.

It’s a 10k walk rising to 599 metres at the top of Blackrock Mountain where there are spectacular views of all of Wexford.

Damien Fitzhenry will lead the walk and will be on the Alan Maguire Afternoon Show on South East Radio each week giving advice on training for the walk and answering your questions. Rory Murphy (The John Murray Show) is the chief Organiser and Route Planner.
