  • Under 21 hurling

The under 21 hurlers beat bunclody tonight by 0-24 to 1-09. Playing with the wind in the first half we started well getting the first couple of scores but bunclody responded with a goal and a point to lead by 1-01 to 0-03. We traded points, with Peter Mernagh, Mark Walsh and Laurence Murphy all raising the white flag and despite some missed frees we got the last few scores of the half to lead by 0-12 to 1-06 at half time. Playing against the wind in the second half we knew we had to improve in order to win the game. We managed to outscore bunclody against the wind by 0-12 to 0-3 in the second half with a very good performance. Despite scoring 24 points we never really had a decent shot at goal, and maybe this was down to the indiscipline of the Bunclody backs who fouled before we had a chance to work the ball in for goals, but having said that some of the frees were soft enough. We are now into the district final which will be played sometime over the next two weeks.

  • Under 21 hurling

The under 21 hurlers comfortably beat the Shamrocks tonight by 2-19 to 0-04. Playing with the wind in the first half we started well getting the first few scores thanks to some good play by James Sweeney and Bryan Dwyer. However we let the Shamrocks close the gap by conceding some silly frees, but in fairness it never really looked like this was going to be a close game with the score at half time being 0-12 to 0-03. The second half started well and two quick goals from Peter Mernagh helped to put the game far past the Shamrocks reach. We tagged on some late scores from frees along with some well taken points feom Liam Gahan and Larry Murphy to finish the game comfortable winners.

    Team was:

    1. Sean Murphy 2. Ray O’Brien 3. Aidan Gahan 4. Seán McCabe 5. Dean Fenlon 6. Niall O’Reilly 7. Paul Gahan 8. Liam Gahan 9. Mick Sweeney 10. Laurence Murphy 11. Matthew Dunne 12. James Gahan 13. James Sweeney 14. Bryan Dwyer 15. Peter Mernagh

Subs: Padraig Flynn for James Gahan, Morgan Gahan for Seán McCabe, Patrick Walsh for James Sweeney, Tomas O Leary for Dean Fenlon

Scores: Peter Mernagh 2-10 (0-08 frees), Laurence Murphy 0-03, Bryan Dwyer 0-02, James Sweeney 0-01, Matthew Dunne 0-01, Dean Fenlon 0-01, Liam Gahan 0-01
