  • Junior football v Oylegate

The junior footballers beat Oylegate by 5-06 to 1-07 on Sunday to finish top of their group in the junior football championship and have now set up a quarter final with the Shamrocks. Marty Kelly got our other goal of the first half from a penalty, which left the half time score at 2-03 to 1-02. Three goals in quick succession from Damien Fenlon, Sean Murphy and John O Loughlin helped us cruise to victory.

  • Junior footballers v Bunclody

The junior football team enusred qualification to the quarter finals with an easy win over Bunclody this evening in what was an awful game of football.

We started brightly scoring 2-02 in the first 10 minutes thanks to goals from James Sweeney and Damien Fenlon, and points from Marty Kelly, but we conceded a penalty minutes later which was scored to leave five points between the teams. There was nothing of any interest which happened for the rest of the half apart from Bunlocdy scoring their first point towards the end of the half to leave the score 2-02 to 1-01 at half time. The second half started in much the same fashion as the last 20 mintues of the first half and it took a goal from corner back Paul Gahan with 10 minutes to go to put the game beyond Bunclody’s reach. We finished well with scores from Mick Sweeney, Marty and Bertie Gahan to end comfortable winners by 3-06 to 1-02.

Things were looking nervous mid way through the second half as Buffers Alley pulled to within 2 points 1-07 to 0-08 but we finshed strongly and a late goal from John O Loughlin ensured we ran out 9 point winners.

  • Junior Football v St Josephs

Our Junior football team had a comfortable 3-13 to 2-09 win over St Josephs in the first round of the championship today. We were slow to start going 2 points to nil down but we made a great recovery scoring 3 goals in quick succession from James Sweeney and we finished out the half with further scores from Sean Murphy and Mick Sweeney to have a healthy half time lead of 3-05 to 1-03. We went further ahead in the second half with more well taken points and at one stage we lead by 3-12 to 1-04 before we let St Josephs make the scoreline look at little less painful from their point of view towards the end. Lets hope that those late concessions don’t affect us later on in the championship.
