  • Under 21 hurling

The under 21 hurlers beat bunclody tonight by 0-24 to 1-09. Playing with the wind in the first half we started well getting the first couple of scores but bunclody responded with a goal and a point to lead by 1-01 to 0-03. We traded points, with Peter Mernagh, Mark Walsh and Laurence Murphy all raising the white flag and despite some missed frees we got the last few scores of the half to lead by 0-12 to 1-06 at half time. Playing against the wind in the second half we knew we had to improve in order to win the game. We managed to outscore bunclody against the wind by 0-12 to 0-3 in the second half with a very good performance. Despite scoring 24 points we never really had a decent shot at goal, and maybe this was down to the indiscipline of the Bunclody backs who fouled before we had a chance to work the ball in for goals, but having said that some of the frees were soft enough. We are now into the district final which will be played sometime over the next two weeks.

  • Under 21 hurling

The under 21 hurlers comfortably beat the Shamrocks tonight by 2-19 to 0-04. Playing with the wind in the first half we started well getting the first few scores thanks to some good play by James Sweeney and Bryan Dwyer. However we let the Shamrocks close the gap by conceding some silly frees, but in fairness it never really looked like this was going to be a close game with the score at half time being 0-12 to 0-03. The second half started well and two quick goals from Peter Mernagh helped to put the game far past the Shamrocks reach. We tagged on some late scores from frees along with some well taken points feom Liam Gahan and Larry Murphy to finish the game comfortable winners.

  • Weekend games

Firstly the junior match was abandoned shortly after half time, due to bad light. It was level at the time and condittions were dangerous so it was a sensible decision

On saturday the intermediate team drew with Buffer’s Alley 3-09 to 3-09, which puts us safely through to the quarter finals. Hurling with a wind advantage in the first half we took a 1-07 to 0-02 point lead at half time and looked good to win the game. Our scores came from Stephen Murphy (a goal and a point), marty kelly, bertie gahan and a brilliant point by Niall O Reilly. Two early goals at the start of the second half by Aidan Gahan and Peter Mernagh along with a trading of points saw us ahead at one stage by 3-08 to 0-06. Really we should have won the game easily but we went asleep and allowed the Alley back into the game and they took a one point lead going into the last minute of injury time. A point from Peter Mernagh with the last puc of the game secured the draw and our place in the knock out stages.

    Team:

    1. Sean Murphy 2. Liam Gahan, 3. Paddy Breen 4. Dean Fenlon 5. Niall O Reilly        16. Tommy Breen 7. Paul Gahan 8. Aidan Gahan 9. Bertie Gahan 10. Marty Kelly 11.Matthew Dunne 12. Niall O Loughlin 13. James Sweeney 14. Stephen Murphy 15. Peter Mernagh Sub: Conall Nolan for Bertie Gahan

  • Monageer Boolavogue v Rapparees Junior b hurling

The junior b hurlers lost their opening championship match this evening to a stronger Rapps side in terrible conditions in monageer.

Monageer started bright with a great score from Pa Murphy and we went in at half time one point ahead but the Rapps were to strong in the second half and ran out comfortable winners by 4-08 to 1-04. Perhaps if we neet again the score might be different but the Rapps were too good on the day.

We hope that the lads can improve from here and qualify for the district semi finals.

    Team to follow.

  • Hurling championship results 13/05/12

The Junior Hurlers played Tara Rocks on Friday night in the second round of the championship and lost by 2-15 to 3-08. The Intermediate hurlers played Davidstown in the second round of the championship and were comfortable winners by 2-16 to 0-11. The damage was done in the first half because we had a 6 point lead at half time, playing against a strong breeze, thanks to goals from Niall O Loughlin and David Breen. Despite winning by such a large margin we didn’t play particularly well but we now have two wins from two games and are top of our group.
