  • Junior hurling replay vs Rapps tonight Tuesday 11th

Just a reminder that tonight Tuesday the 11th, our Junior D hurlers play the replay match against the Rapps in St. Patricks park at 7pm sharp.

The drawn game was a thriller with our lads making a great comeback, so tonight should be an exciting affair.

    All support very much welcomed.

  • Junior ‘a’ Hurling quarter final vs Glynn-Barntown

The junior ‘a’ hurling team showed heart, fight, determination and desire on their way to winning this match on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-12 to reach the county semi final. In stark contrast to the previous days display our lads came back from being six points down to record the win. Points from James Gahan in particular in the first half meant that despite conceding a few sloppy scores we were only five points down at half time, which was a good scoreline considering how bad we hurled. Despite Glynn making the gap six points our lads fought hard and got our just rewards with a goal from John Ivory, which was added to with points from Ed Rowsome, John O Loughlin and Bryan Dwyer. When the final whistle sounded, for the second time this weekend Damien Fenlon celebrated like the All Ireland was won, which goes to show the passion that the team has. It is not decided who our next opponents will be but one thing for sure is our junior team will fight until the end.

Team: Morgan Gahan, Mick Nolan, Daire Turner, Sean Doran, Sean McCabe, Chris Daly, Mick Sweeney, Damien Fenlon, Laurence Murphy, Patrick Walsh, Bryan Dwyer, Ed Rowsome, John Ivory, John O Loughlin, James Gahan Subs: Denis Walsh for Laurence Murphy, Laurence Murphy for Patrick Walsh.

Scores: Ed Rowsome 0-05 (0-04 frees), John Ivory 1-02, James Gahan 0-03, Bryan Dwyer 0-01, Patrick Walsh 0-01, John O Loughlin 0-01

  • Intermediate hurling quarter final vs Marshelstown

The intermediate hurlers lost to Marshalstown yesterday by 3-17 to 3-09 in monamolin. We started poorly, and got progressively worse until a flurry of scores at the end made the scoreline look slightly less painful than it was in reality. Matthew Dunne was one of the very few in the first half who performed well, and deserved the two points he scored, for all the work he did. Despite our poor showing the half time score was 1-06 to 2-06 in favour of Marshalstown, with our goal being scored by Stephen Murphy. The second half started in terrible fashion from our point of view, when we conceded the first three scores of the game and then another srappy goal. The four subs made an impact when they came on and we managed to score two late goals and a few points but in truth Marshalstown were so much better than us on the day. Final score 3-17 to 3-09.

  • Junior ‘b’ hurling semi final vs Rapps

For the second week in a row in Patricks Park, the dedicated and loyal supporters of Monageer/ Boolavogue were treated to a hugely exciting, junior b match. Last week it was the footballers who were the talk of the parish, and tonight it was the turn of the hurlers. Trailing by 1-05 to 2-08, with only minutes to go we pulled it out of the fire again with a great late goal by Tomas O Leary, and three well taken points to leave the final score 2-08 to 2-08. There is definately something to be said for junior b under lights and if the GAA need any evidence of it then the last two weeks will prove it. Despite Damien Fenlon acting like a lunatic on the sideline our lads managed to keep their heads when the shit hit the fan. A display of high fielding similar to that of Ken McGrath was provided by Diarmaid Breen, but his striking would be considered poor, even at under 12 level. He would get my man of the match award though. Robert Rowsome has made nearly as many comebacks as Frank Sinatra at this stage and once again he was needed near the end to shore up the defence. A period of consulation with, and cursing at the referee ended in establishing that there was no extra time to be played at the end of this memorable draw.

Team: 1. Larry Carty 2. Martin Sweeney 3. Declan Kelly 4. Anthony Dempsey 5. Padraig Stafford 6. Barry Miller 7. Diarmaid Breen 8. Michéal Stafford 9. Peadar Lacey 10. Adrian O Dowd 11. Michael Ivory 12. Morgan Rowsome 13. Adrian O Loughlin 14. Ciaran Fenlon 15. John Murphy Subs: Tomas O Leary for John Murphy, Robert Rowsome for Adrian O Loughlin

Scores: Michael Ivory 1-03, Tomas O Leary 1-00, Morgan Rowsome 0-03, Adrian O Dowd 0-02

  • Minor hurling

Hard luck to our minor hurlers who went down to table toppers Glynn/Barntown in the final league game on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-8 after a titanic battle. Despite being understrength due to a spate of injuries this very young team were ahead by 1-5 to 0-5 at half time and led by 1-8 to 0-10 with 10 minutes left only to suffer a cruel blow due to a deflected goal to fall behind. Glynn pressed ahead with a few points but our lads grabbed a second goal  and a brilliant save by their keeper and another rasper that hit the crossbar denied our lads what would have been a deserved win.
    Team; 1 Sean Roche, 2 Jamie O’ Brien, 3 Tomas O’ Leary, 4 Shane Gahan, 5 Camon O’ Brien, 6 Sean McCabe,(0-1) 7 Mark Gahan,(0-1) 8 Padraig Flynn(1-4,1-3 frees) 9 Garry Ennett 10 James Walsh, 11 Bryan Dwyer(0-2) 12 James Gahan(1-0) 13 Conor Doyle, 14 Michael Power, 15 William Murphy.
  • Weekend Championship matches

The intermediate hurlers lost to Naomh Eanna by 0-13 to 0-11 on Saturday. We started the match well but we disimproved from there and went in at half time level on 6 points each, and the second half was equally as painful to look at as the first, with both teams exchanging points until Gorey managed to pull clear to win by two. We now have a quarter final against Marshalstown.

    1. Sean Murphy 2. Ray O Brien 3. Brian O Loughlin 4. Paul Gahan 5. Dean Fenlon 6. Tommy Breen 7. Niall O Reilly 8. Bertie Gahan 9. Mark Walsh (0-01) 10. Niall O Loughlin (0-03) 11. Colm O Loughlin (0-01) 12. Matthew Dunne 13. Marty Kelly (0-01) 14. John Breen 15. Stephen Murphy (0-01) Subs: David Breen (0-01) for John Breen, Peter Mernagh (0-03) for Matthew Dunne, Conall Nolan for Niall O Loughlin, Aidan Gahan for Mark Walsh.

The junior hurlers qualified for the quarter finals with a win over Buffers Alley by 2-12 to 1-07. We started the game very well scoring points from John Ivory and Ed Rowsome with a goal from John O Loughlin giving us a good half time lead, which we never looked like losing. It is still not decided who we will be playing in the quarter final.

    1. Morgan Gahan 2. Sean Doran 3. Daire Turner 4. Mick Nolan 5. Sean McCabe 6. Chris Daly 7. Mick Sweeney 8. Damien Fenlon 9. Laurence Murphy 10. Ed Rowsome 11. Bryan Dwyer 12. Patrick Walsh 13. John Ivory 14. John O Loughlin 15. James Gahan

  • Junior B hurlers extend their unbeaten run

    Monageer-Boolavogue 3-10 Cloughbawn 1-7.

Another good win for Monageer-Boolavogue’s third string which extends the unbeaten run to 6 championship games and qualifies the team for the district semi final having finished the group of 9 teams in 3rd place. After losing their opening 2 games the team has gone from strength to strength over the year. Conditions in Castleboro on Wednesday night were challenging with a strong wind but the pitch was in excellent condition. Both teams needed a win to be sure of qualification so a lot was up for grabs. The team started well and were 7 points up at half time (2-7 to 1-3) with the goals coming from Mick Ivory and John “Boiler” Murphy. Hurling into the wind in the second half put the backs under huge pressure but they managed to weathered the storm and a goal coming from Ciaran Fenlon put the result beyond doubt. Significantly 8 different players got on the scoresheet which is always good. Also, congratulations to James O Loughlin on the birth of his son earlier in the week.

Team – Larry Carty, Anthony Dempsey, Paul Farrington, Murt Sweeney, Podge Stafford, Barry Miller, Diarmuid Breen, Dec Kelly, Peadar Leacy, Adrian O Dowd, Mick Ivory, Morgan Rowsome, John “Boiler” Murphy, Micheal Somers and Micheal Stafford. Subs, John Redmond for Larry Carty, Ciaran Fenlon for Diarmuid Breen (inj), Walter Christopher for Micheal Somers, Adrian O Loughlin for Anthony Dempsey and William Murphy for John Murphy.

  • Minor hurling v Rathnure

Our minor hurlers went down to Rathnure on Thursday evening in Rathnure. Our lads battled well and at half time scores were level at 3-6 each. Rathnure’s strength told in the second half and a flurry of late goals (3 in the 5 minutes) flattered them as they ran out winners on a score of 9-15 to 6-9.  Full foward Podge Flynn banged home 5-3 in what was a goalfest of a match.
    Team; 1 Sean Roche, 2 Michael Power, 3Tomas O’Leary, 4 Jamie O’Brien 5 Camon O’Brien, 6 Sean McCabe, 7. Mark Gahan,8 Larry Murphy(0-2, 0-1 free), 9 Garry Ennett, 10 James Walshe(0-1) 11 Bryan Dwyer(0-1) 12 James Gahan(0-3) 13 Conor Doyle (1-0) 14 Padraic Flynn(5-3,1-2 frees), 15 William Murphy.
