  • Under 14 football champions

The under 14 footballers made up for their hurling county final defeat with a good win over Shamrocks on Saturday in St Patricks Park. It was a low scoring game with the final score being 2-05 to 0-06, thanks particularly to the accurate shooting of Cathal Walsh. Anyway fair play to the lads and hopefully they can kick on next year and do well in the under 16.

Team: Conor Nolan, Adam Dunne, Robbie Donnelly, Daire Walsh, Colm McGannon, Peter Breen, Diarmaid Fenlon, Ian Hawkins, Shay Gahan, Bobby Keating, Michael Rossiter, Matthew Rochford, Ciaran Rochford, Cathal Walsh, Patrick Murphy. Subs used: David Mernagh also Micheal Gahan, Robyn Doyle, Sean O Leary, Ciaran Roche, Art Sinnott, Pauric Walsh

  • Under 16 Football County Final

The under 16s lost out to Clonard last night in the division 5 county final on a final score of 5-08 to 3-03. The final score is probably a bit flattering for Clonard as we conceded some very soft goals, but having said that, they were certainly deserving of their win. We started well and were leading by 1-01 to 0-03 with only minutes to go in the first half but a flurry of scores from Clonard meant that they had a commanding half time lead at 2-05 to 1-01. The second half never really got going in terms of scores and it took a late surge from Clonard to extend the gap to 11 points by the end of the game. This Monageer/Boolavogue team is very young and all bar two of the players are underage again next year.

Team: 1. Joe Fitzgerald 2. Jamie O Brien 3. James Squance 4. Noah Rossiter 5. Camen O Brien 6. Iam Hawkins 7. Sean Roche 8. Peter Breen 9. Robbie Donnelly 10. Shane Gahan 11. Cathal Walsh 12. Cian Allen Subs: James Walshe for James Squance, Ben Doyle for Cian Allen, Michael Rossiter for Shane Gahan, Bobby Keating for Cathal Walsh.

  • Under 21 football

The under 21 footballers were hammered today by Duffry Rovers by 3-13 to 1-06. The day didnt start too well with the news that one our star men was in the bed, whilst another was nearly having to replicate Babs Keating, by playing in his bare feet. In fairness we were useless in the first half, and the half time score of 3-11 to 1-00 meant that the game was probably going to go the way of the Duffry in the end. We were a bit better in the second half and managed to keep the opposition scoreless until injury time at the end of the game. Final score was 3-13 to 1-06. Team was: Sean McCabe, Morgan Gahan, Ray O Brien, Peter Mernagh, Liam Gahan, Paul Gahan, Niall O Reilly, Aidan Gahan, Mark Walsh, Mick Sweeney, Diarmaid Breen, James Gahan, James Sweeney, Matthew Dunne, Sean Murphy. Subs: Laurence Murphy and Bryan Dwyer.

  • Under 21 football

The under 21 footballers have qualified for the district final after beating Davidstown by 2-11 to 1-07 last night in St Patricks Park. We started well and soon had a 1-06 to 0-00 lead and went in at half time leading by 1-10 to 0-03, thanks to some good scores by James Gahan in particular. We never really got out of first gear in the first half and forgot to let of the handbrake for the second. We only managed to score 1-01 in the second half thanks to some woeful shooting by Sean Murphy in particular. We couldnt kick a point in the second half and had to make do with the fisted effort of Bryan Dwyer to record our first score of the half. Morgan Gahan scored a penalty with the last kick of the game.

Team: Sean McCabe, Peter Mernagh, Ray O Brien, Morgan Gahan, Niall O Reilly, Paul Gahan, Liam Gahan, Mark Walsh, Aidan Gahan, Mick Sweeney, Dean Fenlon, James Gahan, James Sweeney, Matthew Dunne, Sean Murphy Subs: Diarmaid Breen, Tomas O Leary, Patrick Walsh, Bryan Dwyer.

  • Junior Football v Tara Rocks

For the second time in three years our junior football team lost in the semi-finals of the championship. Final score was 3-07 to 0-15. Despite a terrible first half where we went in at the break trailing by 3-05 to 0-05 our lads showed great spirit and brilliant point taking to bring the game back to within a point. All on the sideline thought a goal was scored by the knee of bertie gahan close to the end to put us a point ahead but it went just inches wide.

    Team:

Colin Hawkins, Ger Daly, Chris Daly, Liam Gahan, Paul Gahan, Brian O Loughlin, Niall O Reilly, Stephen Murphy, Conall Nolan, Mick Sweeney, Marty Kelly, Damien Fenlon, James Sweeney, John O Loughlin, Bertie Gahan    Subs used: Paddy Breen, John Breen, Matthew Dunne, Sean Murphy

Scores: Marty Kelly 0-04, Damien Fenlon 0-03, James Sweeney 0-02, Paddy Breen 0-02, Conall Nolan 0-02, John Breen 0-01, Bertie Gahan 0-01

  • Under 21 football

The under 21 football team’s tactics of “kicking every high ball to Aidan Gahan because he is the tallest” worked wonders tonight as we overcame the challenge of the Shamrocks by 3-16 to 0-04. The standard of shooting from our lads was woeful at times in the first half and we thought we had done quite well to score 1-09, but a Cartonesque mistake by the referee meant that he had only registered 1-07 of that total despite the fact that we knew who had scored the 1-09 even, leaving the half time score at 1-07 to 0-01. The team received a great boost at half time, with the removal of Bryan Dwyer. We went on to be more productive in the second half as a result, scoring 2-09, despite Larry Murphy displaying a touch similar to that of his namesake from Wicklow, when missing a shot from 5 yards. In fairness to him however he did score 1-03 in the 20 mins which he was on. This win sets up a mouth watering district semi final with Davidstown, where the winner will meet the Duffry Rovers in the final.

Team: Sean McCabe, Ray O Brien, Matthew Dunne, Morgan Gahan, Liam Gahan, Paul Gahan, Niall O Reilly, Mark Walsh, Aidan Gahan, James Gahan, Dean Fenlon, Mick Sweeney, Peter Mernagh, Bryan Dwyer, James Sweeney. Subs: Sean Murphy for Bryan Dwyer, Laurence Murphy for Dean Fenlon, Tomas O Leary for Liam Gahan

  • Junior Football Quarter Final

    Monageer/Boolavogue 2-13 Shamrocks 3-03

We were leading by 2-09 to 0-00 at half time thanks to some brilliant football and two goals from Bertie Gahan along with some well taken points from Marty Kelly and Mick Sweeney. THe second half was a different story however with our lads going asleep and maybe assuming the game was won. Even with 14 men the Shamrocks played us well off the field in the second half, but fortunately for us our big half time advantage was enough to see us into the semi finals, which will be in two weeks time.

Team: 1. Colin Hawkins 2. Liam Gahan 3. Chris Daly 4. Ger Daly 5. Niall O Reilly 6. Brian O Loughlin 7. Paul Gahan 8. Conall Nolan 9. Stephen Murphy 10. Mick Sweeney 11. Marty Kelly 12. Damien Fenlon 13. James Sweeney 14. John O Loughlin 15. Bertie Gahan Subs; Colm O Loughlin for Stephen Murphy, Sean Murphy for Damien Fenlon, James Gahan for James Sweeney and Paddy Breen for ?

Scores: Bertie Gahan 2-01, Mick Sweeney 0-03 (0-01 free), Paul Gahan 0-02, Marty Kelly 0-02 (0-01 free), Niall O Reilly 0-01, John O Loughlin 0-01, Ger Daly 0-01, Sean Murphy 0-01, Damien Fenlon 0-01.

  • Junior ‘B’ football district final

    By Daire Turner:
    Final Score 3-05 to 3-10
Absolutely gutted would be the understatement of the year in describing our feeling leaving St. Patricks Park this evening after been beaten by five points in a thrilling district final that went to extra time, Mickey Lynch was looking for another fiver off the fans on the way out of the game such was the entertainment provided by the two teams. Myself and the Shugs could not ask for anymore from our lads who displayed courage, conviction and down right dog ignorance in never giving up throughout the game, Ballyhogue to be fair to them had the better footballers on the night, but it took them an hour and half of football to shake us off, Mark Walshs goal in injury time in normal time to level the game will long be remembered by the fans who turned out in large numbers for this game, the Rabbit Lacey was imperious in the half back line and Niall Finn has emerged as one of the leaders of the team this year. At 47 years of age and going as hard as any 17 year old at the end of extra time, there are no more superlatives to be used to describe Dermot Prendergast, the likes of Sean McCabe, Larry Murphy and Ray O’Brien cannot but gain from playing with such a legend of the club. John Salo and Robbie Breen were our dangermen in the forwards, ably assisted by Mark Walsh and Morgan Gahan, who seems to revel playing in big games this year. Myself and the Shugs decided (one night outside the Harrow) to take on this Junior B football again this year with the goal of winning the district title as a minimum, we fell short this year, and we will sit down with Liam Dunbar, Mary Carton and Reggie Breen to see whether or not our contracts are to be renewed for 2013. We now turn our attention to the Shamrocks tomorrow in the Junior football and also the Junior B hurlers who are playing next Friday night against the Rapps – sow it into ’em lads.
Team was: 1. Sean McCabe 2. Adrian O Dowd 3. Niall Finn 4. Ray O Brien 5. Declan Kelly 6. Paudi Cooney 7. Peadar Lacey 8. Paul Farrington 9. James O Loughlin 10. Aidan Gahan 11. Dermot Prendergast 12. Morgan Gahan 13. John Ivory 14. Michael Ivory 15.
